International Training Die Expeditie is holding international training for nonviolence over Summer 1995, for people with experience in social change, who wish to improve their skills and conduct their lives in accordance with the truth. Die Expeditie The 'Expedition' is a centre for nonviolent change. Our primary work is to conduct trainings in nonviolence. We also participate in various activities for social change. We have built up experience in training since 1979. Initially our training focussed on direct action. Over the years we have broadened our field to include reflecting on the inner self, which has introduced a greater depth to our work. Our present work involves all fields of life: action, confrontation, inner strength, decision making, leadership, conflict resolution and mediation, as well as contemplation on living in truth. We work mostly in the Netherlands, although we make regular trips abroad to Israel/Palestine and various Eastern and Western European countries. We are associates of the International Fellowship of Reconciliation. Our work is personal, political, social and spiritual. Programme The programme consists of two main parts. The first is on conflict resolution on a personal level. Reflection on personal behaviour in conflicts, role playing to exercise new ways of achieving reconciliation and a model for conflict resolution are aspects of our programme. As much as possible will be done to get to the core of nonviolent conflict resolution, towards getting in touch with truth in difficult moments. Cultural aspects and differences will emerge and be identified while working. Themes in the first part: * Visions of nonviolence; reflection on sources of nonviolence. * Inner strength and tools to mobilise it. * Conflict resolution: the dynamics of a conflict; conflicts nonviolence and reconciliation; a method for conflict resolution; dialogue. The focus in the second part is on nonviolent social change. The way of working will be personal too, in the sense that social change is carried out by people. According to the interests of participants, groups will be formed for analysis and strategy planning, such as racism, ethnic conflicts, environmental issues and so on. Themes in the second part: * Linking social and personal change. * Consideration of our own resistance to change. * Resistance to change in society. * Action and strategy. * Action and confrontation. We will take time to envisage how you can apply what you have learned to your own life and work situation. In between the two parts of the programme, excursions can be made to alternative projects in Holland, and meetings can be arranged. The break of two days is meant as a bridge between the personal and the social parts of the programme. Working methods We use a variety of working methods including role playing, meditative and nonverbal exercises. Our introductions are short and only meant as an aid for contemplation and as a means to link thoughts and theory to your own situation. We avoid discussions and long lectures, preferring to encourage a lively sharing of experiences and insights. Practicalities Date: 5 - 18 August 1995. Cost: NLG 400 - 650. All costs are included.
